what are the effects of non-verbal communication in perceiving information?

PURPOSE OF THE STUDY:
In this research we will find out the effects of non-verbal communication on relationships in our daily life and how it can change the whole meaning of information with just a slight change in non-verbal communication.
The purpose of this research is to see how important non-verbal communication is in daily lives and how differently male and female communicate non-verbally and the effects of age on non-verbal communication.
METHODS USED IN DATA COLLECTION:
The medium that we will use to gather data is mainly through questionnaires but we might also conduct interviews if necessary. We will also perform a social experiment in which we will observe how people perceive one same piece of information with different or no non-verbal communication.
In our questionnaires we will be gathering the following data:
1.Participant’s age
2.Participant’s gender
3.And some questions which will be given in the sample of our questionnaire.

INTRODUCTION & LITERATURE REVIEW
in this modern age where most of our communication is done via mobile phones and other gadgets, most part of the natural communication goes missing like expressions, tones, postures, movement, eye contact, volume etc and these factors are some of the most essential part of the communication process the lack in these factors may result in the failure of getting the original message/information hence result in misunderstandings and conflicts.
“Non Verbal Communication is any way that is used to express thoughts, feelings, or emotions without speaking.” (https://www.accuconference.com/resources/non-verbal-communication.html)
We are all non-verbal communicators. Try as we might, we cannot avoid doing it. Without speaking a word, we consume and deliver thousands of non-verbal messages. Even though we may not always be aware of all the messages we send to others, and may fail to pick up on and decode all the messages others send to us, we are broadcasting and consuming nonverbal cues all the time. In fact, we spend a large part of everyday interacting without using any words at all. The non-verbal channel is credited with carrying as much as 93 percent of the emotional or affective meaning of messages sent and received.
According to non-verbal investigator Albert Mehrabian (UCLA professor), we can break down the emotional composition of messages this way:
• 38 percent of their emotional meaning is conveyed using vocal cues;
• 55 percent of their emotional meaning is conveyed using facial cues;
• 7 percent of their emotional meaning is conveyed using verbal cues or words
Non-verbal communication is like a language that requires no culture or region to understand. Non-verbal communication has a distinct history and serves separate evolutionary functions from verbal communication. For example, nonverbal communication is primarily biologically based while verbal communication is primarily culturally based. This is evidenced by the fact that some nonverbal communication has the same meaning across cultures while no verbal communication systems share that same universal recognizability. So it is very important to understand the importance and use of non-verbal communication in our daily lives.
Considers the role of nonverbal communication in consumers’ evaluation of service encounters. Nonverbal communication has been extensively studied in the psychology and psychotherapy disciplines and has been shown to have a central effect on participants’ perceptions of an event. As services are essentially interpersonal interactions it follows that nonverbal communication will play a major part in service evaluation. Uses an experimental methodology based on video scenarios to demonstrate the effect of this type of communication on consumers. The results indicate significant differences in respondents’ reactions to the scenario according to the nonverbal behavior of the service
Communication plays a key role in our daily lives. To communicative our ideas, feelings, emotions and skills we communicate verbally and non-verbally. These are indispensable in teaching learning process. Teachers can develop an array of verbal and non-verbal skills to aid students’ understanding of difficult concepts. The aim of the present study is to provide the sound understanding regarding the role of non verbal communication in teaching. The study examined that how the teachers use the non verbal communication tactics during the teaching for enhancing student’s performance and motivation toward learning. For this purpose researcher conducted an in-depth interview with the faculty of the social sciences dept. and one focus group discussion was conducted with the student of BS Social sciences to examine that how the students feel motivated during the class lecture while teachers used non verbal communication. For collecting the data interview guide was prepared. After collecting the data, the data was analyzed qualitatively by using the thematic approach. After analyzing the data it was concluded that the non verbal communication is the best tool for enhancing the student performance and their engagement in the process of learning. Student learns easier and actively participated in the class when the teachers use their body language, gesture, posture and eye contact. It was strongly suggested by the student and the teachers that there should be special teaching training workshop/lectures or certificate courses for making effective teaching by using the non verbal communication method in Pakistani cultural context.
This study will analyze the importance of usage of non-verbal communication in daily life as well as determine what factors can affect the non-verbal communication.
DATA COLLECTION METHODS AND ANALYZATION:
1.Questionnaires
2.Internet polling
3.Social experiment (observation)
4.Personal interviews
Sampling size: 50 questionnaires, distributed in the university campus for younger audience. Internet polling, taken by 111 people of unknown ages and genders. 5 Personal interviews taken from older audience. Social experiment conducted within university campus on younger audience.
RESULTS:
From poll:
Q1: DOES EYE CONTACT WHILE TALKING TO A PERSON HELPS YOU IN UNDERSTANDING HIM/HER?
YES: 65%
NO: 35%
Q2: WHILE TEXTING (SMS) DO YOU FEEL DIFFICULTY IN GUESSING THE MOOD/SENSE OF THE PERSON?
YES: 88%
NO: 12%
Q3: DOES YOUR FIGHTS MOSTLY INCLUDE MISUNDERSTANDINGS DUE TO LACK OF PROPER COMMUNICATION?
YES: 40%
NO: 60%
Q4: DO YOU JUDGE A PERSON AT FIRST SIGHT BY HIS/HER APPEARANCE?
YES: 55%
NO: 45%
Q5: DO YOU FREQUENTLY USE YOUR FACIAL EXPRESSIONS AND HANDS GESTURES TO EXPLAIN SOMETHING?
YES: 72%
NO: 28%
Q6: DO YOU THINK FACIAL EXPRESSIONS BODY GESTURES AND DIFFERENT TONES OF VOICE ARE IMPORTANT PARTS OF YOUR DAILY COMMUNICATION?
YES: 93%
NO: 7%
FROM QUESTIONNAIRES:
Same questions were asked in the questionnaires the result is shown below in the form of a graph:
Out of 50 questionnaires 26 were filled by female and rest 24 were filled by male. In question number 1, 20+% people said no and 70+% people said yes. In question number 2, 30+% people said no and 60+% people said yes. In question number 3 the rate of yes and no was equal. In question number 5, 20+% people said no and 70+% people said yes. In question number 6, 10+% people said no and 80+% people said yes.
INTERVIEWS:
Answers given in the interviews were to some extent same but there were more details to it. some people told us that they can understand the mood or sense of a person on text messaging because of the use of emojis (smileys/ graphical representation of feelings).
EXPERIMENT:
Hypothesis statement: “with poor/no/miss use of non-verbal communication the perception of the message can be totally/highly change/disturbed. The meanings of verbal communication depends on the non-verbal communication”
Procedure: we talked to various people who were our acquaintances or friends. We used the statement “I am in pain” and “I like you” using various facial expressions, tones and body gestures. Telling I’m in pain with a smile/funny expression made the person to believe that we were joking and telling the same sentence by using more serious expressions made them believe that we actually were in pain. Similarly, saying I like you with a bit angry expression confused them and telling the same with pleasing gestures and expressions made them feel happy.
Result: results drawn from the experiment, questionnaires, interviews and poll made us come to a conclusion that there is a deep relation of non-verbal communication with the verbal communication with change in non-verbal communication there is a significant change in the how the person will perceive your message.

Seven years into the war!

Seven years into the war, Seven years are long enough! Long enough to finish seven generations, Long hard sleepless nights, please someone hear my sighs! Long enough to go deaf, with all the noise we've heard all our lives, Seven years are long enough, Long enough to realise, who we are and with whom we fight! Long enough between those cries, that haven't been answered by any allies! Look into those innocent eyes, what have they done to deserve this demise. They took my parents away from me, And now I pray for their ease! Seven years away from peace, now we think this is our life! Oh dear God! Hear my plea, I wish no harm, Just save me!

THE WOMAN

She woke up with a sudden jerk; covered in sweat she patted her forehead. She was having the same dream that she had been having since she was 6. "The woman...!" She thought to herself. "Who is she? Why do I always dream about her?" She got up from her bed and went to her study table, took a piece of paper and started writing something down... "She with every dream she is getting nearer and nearer to me. It’s like she wants to tell me something. Now I can see her even when I am fully awake. I can hear her voice along with several other voices telling me to do stuff. Why is this happening to me? Should I talk to mum about it? But I don't want to cause her any trouble. My presence is already a big problem for her. I don't see her smile after dad left us and she got married to Joe. I always thought she loved him and he loved her then why do they fight all the time. Sometimes it gets so loud in here that I have to hide under my bed. I know that mum and Jo...
